Mike Hall
We welcome saxophonist Mike Hall. Mike is one of our regular guest soloists, a leading educator, band leader, composer, arranger and sideman, whose visits to the club are an absolute joy.
Mike’s cv is impressive, to say the least. He began his musical career with the National Youth Jazz Orchestra which led to work with composer/pianist Michael Garrick, with whom he toured and recorded.
He plays with the Echoes of Ellington Orchestra (including performances at Ronnie Scott’s Club), with Andy Scott’s Sax Assault, and with his own jazz octet, ‘Boplicity’. He freelanced with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic and Hallé Orchestras with guest conductors such as John Wilson.
Mike has taught at the Royal Northern College of Music since 1994 where he is Professor or Jazz Saxophone, and continues to run jazz summer schools and workshops. Tonight he is supported by Mark Gordon (keyboard), Bob Walker (bass) and Paul Smith (drums).
