Firebird Quartet
Led by trumpeter Ian Chalk - well known to the club through his musical partnership with vocalist Kate Peter as well as being a leading jazz educator and big band leader in York - the Quartet plays foot-tapping contemporary jazz with their own take on standards and music by artists such as Wynton Marsalis, Terence Blanchard and Wayne Shorter, as well as original compositions.
Reviewing one of the Quartet’s previous appearances at the club Dick Armstrong wrote, ‘Accomplished musicianship showcased by a well-chosen repertoire….the band used interesting and attractive riffs to great effect and intelligently made refreshing changes to the group sound…stimulating jazz all the way through to their sizzling encore.’ Read more...
In addition to Ian, with his cool, deep, sound and flowing, melodic lines, the Quartet features three excellent players, Martin Longhawn on piano, John Marley on bass and Tim Carter on drums.
Supported by Jazz North.
